Printed on Chancery paper, measuring 20.8 x 13.9 cm; 35 lines to a full page; area of text: 15.7 x 9.7 cm. Includes ornamental woodcut initials. First four leaves of first two gatherings and first five leaves of last gathering are foliated sequentially from 1 to 13. Rubrication in red and woodcut initials hand-colored in red on first page only. Ms. foliation on upper right hand "49"-"74". Binding: modern stiff vellum; contemporary limp vellum wrapper bound in.

Largely based on Heinrich Steinhöwel's treatise on the plague, first printed in Ulm in 1473. Entire passages are copied verbatim. Printed on Chancery-size paper, measuring 28.8 x 20.4 cm. In double columns with 42 lines and headline to a full page; col. width: 6.5 cm.; area of text: 20.6 (21.6) x 13.7 cm. With many ornamental printed initials, some initial spaces with guide-letters, and printed fists in margins; without catchwords. Includes 23 woodcut illustrations (many repeated) of various sizes, which generally depict doctors in consultation with each other and at patients' bedsides. Cf. Schramm. Signatures: A⁴ B-G⁶. Three portfolios of samples from Germany which represent various forms of art with paper: paperweaving, sewing cards and paper-cutting and folding. The first set, in Env. 1, is entitled Flecht -u.-Ausuäh Schule; the second, in Env. 2, Versdur-u.-Buchzeichen Schule (Stringing and Bookmarking School); and the third, in Env. 3, Falt-u.-Ausscheide Schule (Folding and Cutouts School). The name "Louise Chur" is stamped at the bottom of the front cover of each of the three portfolios. The first portfolio contains 24 numbered (in ms.) samples of paper weaving, each labeled "Blott" and has "Louise Chur" written in ms., in ink, in the upper right-hand corner. Each sheet measures 5 3/4 in. W x 8 3/4 in. H ; 14.5 cm. W x 22.2 cm. H. The second portfolio contains a total of 23 samples of artwork; the first 11 of which are completed sewing cards; the next 2 are yarn tracings, and the last 10 are examples of paper weaving and folding. The sizes of the pieces vary. The third portfolio contains 20 examples of paper folding and paper cutouts, mounted onto cardstock. Much of the paper folding samples are reminiscent of origami. Each completed, mounted piece measures 8 in. W x 10 3/8 in. H ; 20.3 cm. W x 26.4 cm. H Title supplied by cataloger.

Possibly reprints of some of the maps published "under the superintendence of The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, 1830 - 1844, in its "Maps of the Society" (1844) and its "General atlas" (1853); cf. Phillips, #794 and #811; maps themselves dated 1830-1842. Title from spine of outer case. Map imprints list as publishers: Baldwin and Cradock (30, 1830-1837), Charles Knight & Co. (3, 183[8?]-1840); Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (8, 1838-1840), Chapman and Hall (2, 1842); one (Hamburg) is without imprint. All 41 x 36 cm. except the maps for Venice (in two parts) and London, which are 41 x 66 cm. Most include pictorial insets. 25 of these listed as drawn by W.B. Clarke, 15 as engraved by B.R. Davies, 13 as engraved, drawn and/or printed by J. Henshall; and 1-3 each as engraved and/or printed by J. & C. Walker and 6 others. Most maps are of European cities, except for: Calcutta. Also includes Pompeii, Rome (ancient) as well as Rome (modern). Many map captions include French, German or Italian listings, depending on location of city. RB copy IMPERFECT?
