Set of five miscellaneous pieces of original artwork

A set of five (5) miscellaneous pieces of original artwork (probably) by Mabel Spofford, ca. 1947. Env. 1 is a pencil-on-tracing paper illustration of a view of the globe, with American Red Cross flags protruding from various countries. Below the image is the phrase "Your Red Cross It's For You Are You For It?" Measures 4 x 6 inches. Env. 2 is a pen and ink drawing of a barefoot hiker with his dog, and 3 angels above. The image is signed and dated "M.S. 2.5.47". Measures 7 1/4 in. W x 10 1/2 in. H. Env. 3 is a crayon and watercolor image of a wrapped bouquet of pink and yellow flowers. Measures 9 in. W x 12 in. H. Env. 4 is an unfinished sketch, in crayon and watercolor (perhaps watercolor crayons) of a flower. Measures 9 in. W x 12 in. H. Env. 5 is a crayon design. Measures 9 in. W x 12 in. H.

Art & Decoration in Crepe & Tissue Paper

One instructional book/catalog, entitled Art & Decoration in Crepe & Tissue Paper, published by Dennison Mfg. Co., Boston, Massachusetts, ca. 1895. This instructional catalog is 88 pages in length, and contains illustrated and textual instructions for creating lampshades, candle shades, flowers, doll dresses, picture frames and dinner napkins, as well as supplies needed for each project, with prices. Also included, mounted to p. 3, are tissue paper samples, with the company's full range of colors. The illustrated front cover features a lamp with an elaborate lampshade made from crepe paper; a dressing table "draped with Dennison's Imported Crepe Paper" is on the back cover. The inside front cover is a listing of the company's colored crepe paper in stock, and the last page and the inside of the back cover are manufacturer's advertisements for Dennison's Tissue Paper Outfits.

The set of 55 posters is housed within 5 large envelopes; there are 23 different posters, with duplicate copies of 9 of the 23. All of the posters contain black and white reproductions of photographs. Accompanying the posters within the first folder is a large piece of brown wrapping paper on which is written in ms.: "Mabel Spofford; from Boston Museum of Fine Arts, received April 7. 1956 art appreciation posters." Five art reproductions by the George P. Brown & Co., Beverly, Massachusetts, published ca. 1925[?]. This set of reproductions belongs to the "Brown's Pictures" series. Each of these 5 cards is printed in black and white, and along with the image, contains, the series name, the word "Miniature", number in the series, and the artist's name. For example, the reproduction in env. 51 reads: "'Pilgrims Going to Church'; Brown's Pictures- Miniature- 66. Boughton." The other reproductions in this set are: "Signing the Declaration of Independence" by Trumbull; "Return of the Mayflower" [credit not given]; "Martha Washington" [credit not given]; and "John Alden and Priscilla" [credit not given]. Only the back of "John Alden and Priscilla," contains additional information; "This is a sample of Brown's Miniature Pictures, 840 subjects, size 3 x 3 1/4..." and list sitems and prices for others in the series.
