Visual Materials
An album of color photographs chronicling the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Redstone Arsenal, a United States Army post near Huntsville, Alabama, and its new status as home of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. Photographs depict visiting dignitaries, including Major General John Barclay, and many product exhibits of a space program and defense contractor trade show. Companies whose products are displayed include: Du Pont and a proposed space suit, Boeing Company Minuteman Systems, I.B.M., Lockheed Aircraft, General Electric, Honeywell, and many others. Also included are several images of a Redstone missile standing next to its mobile launching platform. The color in the prints has faded considerably.

The Albert R. Hibbs Papers, 1884-2009 (80 boxes) document the personal life and career of Hibbs as a manager and scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), the relationships between JPL, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and the development of the solar system exploration programs. Hibbs' consulting work for television and radio programs, Biosphere 2, and Morgantown Area Rapid Transit System (MARTS) are also documented. Although the collection arrived at The Huntington in disarray, original order of the materials was maintained when possible and the arrangement reflects Hibbs' general organization by correspondent, subject, or format of materials. The collection is divided into ten series: Audio Visual Materials, Consulting Files, Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Notebooks, Personal Files, Photographs and Negatives, Presentations and Speeches, Publications and Writings, Teaching Files, and Oversize. The bulk of collection materials date from 1931 to 1999 and consists of audio and video tapes, clippings, correspondence, memoranda, notes, photographs, publications, speeches, and writings. As the collection is arranged by both subject and format of the materials, researchers should be aware that materials are often dispersed through the series. For example, materials related to specific subjects are frequently represented in the JPL and Notebooks Series; similarly, Hibbs' friendship and collaboration with Roy L. Walford is documented in the Correspondence and Aging Research and Writings subseries of the Personal Series, in the Space Bioshpheres Ventures subseries of the Consulting series, as well as in the Audio Visual Materials Series. Correspondence is also dispersed throughout the series.

This collection consists of material created by and related to The Planetary Society since its beginning in 1980 and up to 2016. It contains Board of Directors correspondence, memorandums, and meeting minutes; material related to public relations, events, fundraising and membership; copies of The Planetary Report (not a complete set); NASA photo files; material related to the Solar Sail and the Mars Rover program; NASA and space exploration in general; Apollo reports; the Hubble Telescope; and US and Russian cooperation in space (including Planetary Society staff's trips to Russia). The collection also contains photographs and negatives; video cassette tapes and film; clippings; T-shirts, posters, badges, stickers, memorabilia; artwork; and miscellaneous material. There is material both about and by: Carl Sagan (including his 265-page curriculum vitae), Bruce Murray, Louis Friedman, Bill Nye, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Buzz Aldrin. There is artwork by space artists Ron Miller, Michael W. Carroll and Mark Paternostro among others.

Photograph collection of prints and albums detailing the missionary work of William H. Weinland (1861-1930), a Moravian missionary, as well as his family and associates. Images include sites in Alaska among the Eskimo and southern California at the Morongo Reservation. Other images are from Arizona, possibly Montana, and the Great Plains. Photographs in Alaska are by Canadian missionary and Weinland associate Henry Hartmann, William H. Weinland, and commercial photographer M. Lorenz. Many of the southern California images are by William Weinland. Includes a cyanotype of native American school children in southern California and contact prints of Banning, Calif. and the surrounding area.

Album of Photographic Postcards of Mexican border wars

An album of photographic postcards pertaining to battles along the U.S.-Mexico border during the Mexican Revolution, approximately 1913-1916. Images include soldiers and officers, military camp life, views of artillery and trenches, Yaqui Indian soldiers, U.S. Army cavalry and refugee camps. Notable among the photographs are many views of dead soldiers and executions by hanging or firing squad. The compiler of this disbound album is unknown; photographs are mounted on paper album pages, and there are many handwritten captions on the pages. Dates written in captions range between 1913 and 1916, and several make reference to battles at Naco and Agua Prieta in Sonora, Mexico in 1913. Other locations represented include military encampments at Nogales, Arizona and Agua Prieta; a refugee camp at Douglas, Arizona; and a bird's-eye-view of the town of Columbus, New Mexico. Some photographs show child soldiers brandishing guns, civilian spectators viewing bodies, and one view of a U.S. airplane squadron. There are three photographs of Pancho Villa, including a group portrait with Gen. Rodolfo Fierro and Gen. Hugh Lenox Scott. Other portraits include Álvaro Obregón and officers; Yaqui leader Luis Bule; Francisco I. Madero; Pascual Orozco and General P.E. Calles. There is one view of the dead body of Enrique Portillo; other photographs of executed men are identified by nicknames or surnames only. Most of the photographic postcards are by Walter H. Horne (credit "W.H. Horne Co.") of El Paso, Texas, with several also by photographer Calvin ("Cal") Osbon of Douglas, Arizona. Osbon's photographs are notable for lengthy, descriptive captions imprinted in the images. The formats are almost all photographic postcards, except for a few smaller photographs and one larger group portrait labelled "Carranza Cabinet" showing Venustiano Carranza and others at Agua Prieta, May, 1914.
