    One set of 20 plates made from steel engravings, ca. 1810. The plates have been disbound from an unnamed book source. Only the first plate is numbered. Most, if not all, of the images are of Biblical figures, such as Jesus, Mary, John and Peter. None of the images are labeled, except for Peter and John, whose names are written below the image in ms., in pencil. The first plate contains numbered geometric and simple head and shoulder drawings. Each of the remaining plates contains two images (head only) per plate. Title supplied by cataloger.

    One set of 8 sheets of original drawings, each in charcoal pencil, ca. 1840?. Only the first two sheets are numbered, none of the drawings are signed. The first leaf contains images of animal heads and legs; the second is also animal heads; the third is a view of a church, the fourth contains two scenes, one of a thatched-roof house and another of a farm scene; the fifth is of a mill next to a stream, the sixth is of a house and its wood shed; the seventh image is of a vine-covered stone house; and the last image is a landscape view including a stone bridge.     One set of art reproductions entitled The Seaside in Art, by Pedro J. Lemos, published by The School Arts Magazine, The Davis Press, Worcester, Massachusetts, 1922. A portfolio of 16 numbered plates of various images of the ocean, ships, fish, shells, etc. comprise the set, which is accompanied by an 8-page introduction by Pedro J. Lemos. Each numbered plate contains a few lines of descriptive or explanatory text below the images. The represented artworks are by various artists. "The Seaside in Art" is printed in the upper left-hand corner of each plate, along with a category in the upper right-hand corner: Plates 1-2 Marine Painting; Plate 3 Outdoor Sketches; Plate 4 Wave Studies; Plate 5 The Sea Coast; Plate 6 Decorative Composition; Plate 7 Sea Scenes; Plate 8 Seaweeds; Plate 9 Shell Fish Designs; Plate 10 Sea Shell Designs; Plate 11 Decorative Fish; Plate 12 Applied Fish Designs; Plate 13 Ship Designs; Plate 14 Ship Designs; Plate 15 Applied Sea Designs; Plate 16 Applied Ship Designs. The plates are housed in an illustrated folder. A blind embossed letter "S" (Mabel Spofford) is stamped at the top of each of the plates.

    One set of drawing cards, untitled, ca. 1850. There are 48 drawing cards in this set, each numbered in the upper-right hand corner, 5 to 32, followed by 66, then 68-76. The designs, largely geometric, are progressively more complex as the numbers go higher. Many of the cards have been copied in pencil, next to the original printed design (one per card). They are untitled, and contain no other form of identification. Title supplied by cataloger.

    Teachers' Manual for Free-Hand Drawing in Primary Schools

    One book entitled Teachers' Manual for Free-Hand Drawing in Primary Schools, by Walter Smith, published by James R. Osgood & Company, Boston, 1873. Also on the title page: "Intended to accompany the American Drawing-Cards, by the same author." This book is 104 numbered pages in length, and is comprised of an Introduction and 5 chapters: "Chapter 1, Centre, Points, and Straight Lines; Chapter 2, Straight-Line Figures; Chapter 3, Simple Curves; Chapter 4, Compound Curves- the Ellipse and Oval; Chapter 5, Compound Curves- Reversed Curves- The Ogee- Abstract Curves." Each of the lessons refer to, and illustrate, the Smith drawing cards intended to accompany the book. Title is within a simple double-rule frame on the front cover. The insides of the covers, as well as the back cover, are blank. "Sarah F. Richmond, Dec. 1873" is written in ms., in ink, in the upper right-hand corner of the front cover. "dc, 5/84, 10-" is written in ms., in pencil, in the upper right-hand corner of the first page.

    One painting book entitled Home Painting Book, published by McLoughlin Bros., Springfield, Massachusetts, ca. 1930. The book is comprised of a series of double illustrations; for each set, one image is printed in color, the other is printed in outline form. The outline image was meant to be painted. On the front cover is a color illustration of two children picking flowers. A collage of colored chalk against a black background borders the principal illustration. "McLoughlin Bros. Inc., Springfield, Mass." is printed in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover; "2044, made in USA" is printed in the right-hand corner. The back cover is blank. The endpapers are illustrated with geometric designs. Directions for using the book and mixing paint colors are on the recto of the first page. The illustrations are printed on one side of each leaf. Some of the images within the book include scenes of playing children, animals, flowers and food. Few of the images have been filled in.
