Florence dam construction - View showing the buttresses as poured for the winter in the temporary spillway section. The concrete was poured in these places in order to prevent the trenches from filling up during the winter with dirt, rock, etc., and also to prevent being filled up in case of spill at this point next year.

    Big Creek, Florence Lake Dam - View of spillway taken at 11:30 A.M., giving perhaps a little better view of spill over the drum gates (approx. 1 ft.) and the logs caught on top of same. In order to free the gates of these logs Mr. Panton, who was at the spillway at the time, lowered the gates just enough to allow these logs to be washed over. After this was done, which required only a short time, the gates were raised to their original position.
