    Microfilm of the diaries of Joseph H. Richards, covering the years 1876, 1881, 1886, and 1892-1893. All of the Utah and Arizona diaries consist of brief entries recalling Richards's daily life. The 1876 volume records his life in Utah and his call to colonize Arizona; the 1881 volume records his life in the St. Joseph United Order; the 1886 diary recalls his travels from Arizona to Utah and California; and the 1892-1893 diary recounts in more detail his mission to England and Scotland, and also includes a brief autobiography.

    Microfilm of diaries and notes kept by Phillip Margetts during his missions to England (1857-1861; 1891) and South Africa (1862). The first volume is a notebook kept during his 1857-1859 mission to England, and much of it consists of pages of poems, notes (including a list of cities visited), accounts, and drafts of letters. A second 1891 diary briefly recounts a second mission to England. It is followed by a detailed autobiography and diary of the 1857-1858 mission to England and a final volume of Margett's 1861 mission to England, which also includes a diary kept while he was sailing on the Sidney in 1862 to South Africa, where he spent time in Mowbray, Port Elizabeth, and Oliphants Hoek.

    Microfilm of assorted diaries, account books, and notes kept by James Stephen Brown. The microfilm includes fragments of diaries dated Ogden City 1860, Calhoun, Iowa, 1849, and Salt Lake 1859; a diary identified as Nottingham, England, which opens in 1857, when Brown delayed his mission work to participate in the Utah War, and traces his travels through Utah, his overland journey to New York, and his mission in England from 1860-1861; a second diary covering Brown's mission in England; an 1872 diary tracing his mission work in New York, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts; an 1875-1876 diary describing his travels through Utah and mission to Navajos in Arizona; assorted family notes dated 1900; a typescript of Brown's 1875-1876 Navajo diary; an 1875-1876 Utah diary; a diary dated 1892 tracing a mission to the Society Islands; an account book dated 1863-1866; and a diary dated 1870, which mainly contains account notes from 1866-1870.

    Diary of Jesse Bigler Martin [microform]: 1857

    Microfilm of Jesse Bigler Martin's 1857 diary, kept while he was leading his own company overland to Utah following a mission to England. The diary begins on July 30, when Martin was near Scott's Bluffs, Nebraska. It includes entries on distances traveled, members of his company, and notes on supplies. Martin arrived back in Salt Lake City on September 13, and brief diary entries recount his attention to home matters, attendance of a prayer circle, and his departure from the city on November 10 with his "brethren" to "stop the soldiers from coming into the city." He fell ill and returned to Salt Lake City two weeks later. The final entry recounts his marriage to Ann Clark in December. Additional notes in the diary include a list of Martin's plural wives and children, genealogy, a list of debts and credits, lyrics for the Missionaries Hand Card Song, the Crystal Spring, and the Carrier Dove, and a newspaper obituary for Ann Clark Martin.

    Diary and autobiography of George Lake [microform] :

    Microfilm of the diary and autobiography of George Lake, beginning with diary entries of his mission trip to England from October 1870 to August 1871. Lake appears to have been living at Workington in Cumberland, although he frequently traveled to Newcastle and surrounding areas. The mission entries focus on Lake's attendance of Church conferences and his interactions with local Mormons, including notes on births, marriages, and deaths. The remainder of the volume is a mixture of autobiography and diary entries, and recalls Lake's move to Oxford in Round Valley, Utah, following his return from England in 1871; his flight to avoid polygamy charges in 1874; his being placed in charge of the northern division of Arizona missionaries in 1876, including a list of names of fellow missionaries; and his involvement in creating the United Order at Yavapai, Arizona, in 1877. The volume includes the text of the "last address by Gen. Joseph Smith the Prophet to the Nauvoo Legion in June 1844," followed by a brief summary of Lake's life in 1879. The final pages, in another hand, include a family record with genealogy up through about 1938 and the texts of patriarchal blessings on the Lake family in 1913.

    Microfilm of the diary of Daniel H. McAllister, kept from 1876-1877 while he was traveling between Utah and Arizona. The volume opens with a brief autobiography, including McAllister's decision to travel to Arizona in 1876. He records in detail his journey from Salt Lake City to Pima County. Once in Arizona his entries focus on daily activities such as digging ditches, cutting timber, agricultural work, and attending meetings. Later entries also cover his 1877 visit to Utah, including stops in Salt Lake City and St. George.
