    The collection consists of official copies of plays submitted for licensing between 1737 and 1824. Most of copies were written by professional copyists. Approximately 95 of the plays submitted were printed texts, either whole or partial. These have been cataloged individually and may be searched in the online catalog.

    Manuscript title page states, 'for the opening of the Theatre Royal Haymarket. 1784'. Includes corrections, some marks, by Examiner [?] and prologue and songs. John Payne Collier in Biographia Dramatica: Larpent's copy has the author's corrections and omissions -- It was objected to on account chiefly of personal allusions to the instrumentality of the Duchess of Devonshire in the Westminster.     Somersett English cashbook

    This is Somersett English's cash account books containing his detailed accounts for yearly receipts and expenditure in the Woodyard; in the Royal residences; and in his own homes at Hampton Court and Whitehall. The account book contains records of his regular purchases and receipts, as well as payments to his laborers and administrators and to shippers responsible for the movement of fuel up and down the Thames. There are also accounts with other departments such as the Office of the Greencloth, Spicery, and the Pastry House. The accounts contain the names of prominent figures who stayed at Hampton Court and includes the amount of fuel they consumed while there. Some of the names found are: the Prince of Wales, Horace Walpole, the Duchess of Monmouth, the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough, the Dukes of Kent, Roxburgh and St. Albans and the Earls of Bridgewater, Sunderland, Lincoln, and Manchester, and Christopher Wren.
